International Violin Making Exhibition
Brescia, Italy, June 9 - July 8, 2007

An exhibition showing more than thirty masterpieces among violins, violas, cellos and double basses. Five concerts.

A journey to the rediscovery of those craftsmen operating in Brescia during the “Golden Century” of violin making, their heritage, the music their artists produced.

Danilo Rossi with his violaSupported by the Province of Brescia, the Association Nuove Settimane Barocche, with the artistic direction of Emanuele Beschi and Francesco Lattuada, will bring to light in Brescia the masterpieces of Brescian Ancient violin making school, worldwide known through the works of Giovanni Paolo Maggini and his master, Gasparo da Salò.

More than thirty instruments - violins, violas, cellos and double basses - will be lent by public and private collections with the aim to rediscover not only Maggini’s work, but also his influence upon the classic violin making from the seventeenth century onward.

Brescian instruments have always played a primary role in the musical life and their importance is still recognized today. For this reason the exhibition will dedicate also a special attention to the musicians who have chosen these extraordinary instruments to express their own art.
